Paris

After his work was exhibited in various group shows in the early 70s, Fred moved to Paris in 1977, where he lived for five years. Meanwhile, he kept his studio loft in a former factory building near Hamburg Central Station, home to fellow artists Wolfgang Finck, Jan Meyer-Rogge and Konrad Schulz.

At the time, Fred also began working at the Kunstverein in Hamburg, a job he kept for thirty years. In retrospect, he often described the paintings of the »Paris Period« as his favourite works. With these black and white large format oil paintings, series and drawings, Fred perfected his approach to Photorealism.

»Miss America«, 1976, Oil on Wood, 58 x 42 x 6 cm

Fred used to travel with the »Miss America« paintings by train, working on them in Paris and Hamburg. He considered them his best realistic work.

»20 Schlafende«, 1982, Oil on Wood, 70 x 42 x 4,5 cm
