New Paths
After leaving Paris in 1982, Fred moved back to Hamburg and his old studio. Artistically, he broke new ground, moving from Photorealism towards a more abstract direction. His paintings of masks, faces and hands caught the eyes of many collectors.
In 1990, the city of Hamburg comissioned the large format oil painting »Hand« which can be seen at the Central Post Office Schlüterstraße to this day. Fred also teached Painting at the Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften Hamburg (HAW) from 1985 until 1988.
While their friendship got closer, Ulrike and Friedrich Fix acquired an extensive collection of Fred’s work. Subsequently, Fred started painting lovely little pictures called »Schmonzkes«, given to their cat Minz as birthday presents.
